Who is Phillips Latte Go NOT perfect for?

I am trying to be impartial and provide an honest assessment in the Phillips Latte Go review. Though Phillips LatteGo is a powerful machine that brews delicious drinks, it may not be suitable for everyone. It most certainly is not a good option for individuals with a strict budget. Furthermore, the machine may not be great for the following reasons:

Phillips LatteGo has a black, shiny exterior with stainless steel accents, and a design that can complement most kitchen settings.

Though the machine is made primarily with plastic, we felt the machine looked and felt elegant, sturdy and stylish.

The coffee pouring outlet, the LatteGo system and the control panel are all located on the front of the machine. The burr grinder as well as the coffee ground container are located on the top of the machine. The water tank is transparent and, while its contents are visible on the left side of the machine, it can actually be accessed from the front of the machine, by pulling it out like a drawer.

Voltage: Phillips Latte Go coffee and espresso machine is made for 120V, and can be used in Canada and the US only. However, Phillips is a world famous brand and its appliances sell worldwide. If you live outside of the US and Canada, you will likely find this model in your local stores.

Basket size: This is a fully automatic coffee machine and does not have a portafilter

Beverage size: This machine allows me to select a beverage size of my choice. Depending on the coffee drink I select, I may have even more choices. For instance, for black coffee and Americano, I can choose between 4, 6 or 8 ounces. For espresso, the size ranges from 1 to 2 ounces (standard shot or double shots).

Weight: Expectedly, this Phillips Latte Go espresso maker was a little heavier, weighing about 15 pounds. This is still much lighter than some of the more advanced and robust coffee makers. However, I found a permanent spot for this espresso maker on my countertop.

Unit size: With a size of 9.6 in in width, 14.6 in height and 17 in depth, Phillips LatteGo is quite large, but not as large as other machines of its type.

Milk frother: Phillips LatteGo uses an innovative milk system that is easy to set up and clean. The two LatteGo parts click together to create a channel in which steam pressure sucks up milk through the hole at the bottom of the container. The frother mixes the milk with air at high speed in the round frother chamber, then pours the creamy milk froth layer into the cup at just the right temperature.

The unused milk can be left in the LatteGo recipient and be easily stored in the fridge. The LatteGo milk container has a capacity of 250 ml (8.5oz).

Pressure / pressure gauge: The Phillips Latte Go came with a 15-bar Italian pressure pump. This BAR amount is what we expect from a very solid espresso machine.

Water reservoir: Phillips LatteGo has a large 61oz removable water reservoir. I was able to easily access it from the front of the machine. The water tank is easy to access by pulling it out like a drawer.

Additional perks: I was so excited for this Phillips Latte Go review. The machine comes with some really great and unparalleled features.

✓ Grinder with 12 different grind sizes or pre-ground coffee. I can prepare coffee exactly the way I like it by choosing one of 12 grinder settings. Furthermore, if I do not want to worry about grinding coffee beans, I can simply brew coffee from pre-ground beans.

The intelligent brewing system achieves the perfect balance between brewing temperature and aroma extraction by maintaining the water temperature between 194° – 208°F during brewing. Brewing time: Phillips Latte Go is an efficient and quick coffee and espresso machine. The brewing time largely depends on the type of coffee beverage. Phillips LatteGo can brew 5 different types of drinks, and can also brew two shots of espresso at the same time thanks to its double pouring outlet.

Brewing one shot of espresso will take only a few seconds. However, the entire brewing process will increase depending on whether I want to brew a more sophisticated drink or on whether I want to brew a coffee drink that also needs milk froth added to it. The grinding will also add a few extra seconds to the preparation process.

Flavor: Phillips LatteGo brews strong, rich coffee. Milk froth adds additional layer of richness and creaminess. The machine can brew a variety of 5 coffee beverages: black coffee, espresso, cappuccino, americano, and latte macchiato. Each of these drinks can brew easily at the touch of a button.

Temperature: In our tests for this Phillips Latte Go review, the machine has almost always reached a nearly perfect brewing temperature. LatteGo comes with an intelligent brewing system that achieves perfect balance between brewing temperature and aroma extraction by maintaining water temperature between 194° – 208°F during brewing. In average, the temperature range for milk and black coffee is 158° – 180°F.

We were able to adjust the temperature easily, as the machine comes with 3 temperature levels: normal, high and max.

Milk frother: Phillips LatteGo uses an innovative milk system that is easy to set up, and can be cleaned in as little as 15 seconds under the tap, or can also be put in the dishwasher.

Noise levels: The machine is slightly louder while grinding the coffee beans. The LatteGo also makes some noticeable noises. We did not find them bothersome, but they were giving us the promise of a cup of delicious coffee.

Cleaning: The manufacturer advises that the machine should undergo regular cleaning and maintenance. Keeping the machine in top condition ensures good-tasting coffee for a long time, as well as a nice, steady coffee flow. The manual contains a detailed description on when and how to clean all the detachable parts of the machine.

I can put the milk system, drip tray and the coffee ground container in the dishwasher, which will save me time and ensure a hygienic cleaning.

The AquaClean water filter purifies the water in the water tank, which allows me to enjoy up to 5,000 cups of coffee without having to descale.

Customer-reported technical issues

We have not experienced any major issues while testing the product for this Phillips LatteGo review.

While independently researching this product, we noticed that the vast majority of customer reviews were positive. However, there was a bunch of users who expressed their dissatisfaction with the following:

• Did not function as expected
• Brewed weaker coffee, especially when using the pre-ground coffee option
• Grinds beans but does not brew coffee

Again, those negative comments appeared as rather isolated incidents. It’s possible that a couple of units came flawed. However, it should be possible to get a replacement from Phillips or a retailer.

→ Health and safety

Phillips LatteGo is made primarily with plastic. Owly Choice is particularly concerned with potentially harmful chemicals included in plastics, such as BPA, BPS, and many others.

We sincerely appreciate Phillips’ efforts in transparency and communication with respect to the materials. Phillips has posted a chemicals management list, which includes materials restricted from the products. Thankfully, BPA is one of them. Furthermore, Phillips is phasing out phthalates.

This is all wonderful. However, we prefer erring on the side of caution. We did not see any mention of exclusion of BPS, BPHPs and other materials, which may potentially be harmful.

Phillips LatteGo is a rather expensive espresso and coffee machine, at a $$$$$ tag. While expensive (and in some situations, more expensive than some top tier espresso machines), the price is more than reasonable given what Phillips LatteGo can do.

Not only does it brew delicious espresso, but it can yield delicious cup of coffee, with or without perfectly made milk froth. Furthermore, Phillips LatteGo allows to select desired brewing temperature and strength.

It certainly saves the money you would spend on a separate grinder, it saves you time by doing almost everything by itself, and it has a milk frother that no other coffee machine has.
