Though perhaps slightly less user friendly as other percolators, Farberware 8-cup percolator has earned my heart with the affordability. For $17, I am able to brew and enjoy delicious coffee. Farberware 8-cup percolator is a really strong proposition at a great price. It might not be as advanced or sophisticated as other coffee makers, which come with some perks or design aiming to improve coffee flavor or brewing efficiency.

As I was testing the product for this Farberware percolator coffee pot review, I was mostly very pleased with the product. It offered me enormous flexibility and ownership in coffee brewing. With this, I was able to choose amount of coffee, brewing temperature, the length of soaking coffee grounds in water, and many more variables, which affect the ultimate flavor of coffee.

I feel that Farberware 8 cup percolator can be perfect for those who are looking for a coffee appliance that has any of the following characteristics:

Just like with other percolators, I would love to remain honest in this Farberware 8 cup percolator review. I think that there are a couple of examples where where this product might not be a perfect choice:

✗ Need time to learn brewing in percolator

✗ Not great to heat up in an open campfire

✗ Some coffee grounds inside my cup of coffee

✗ Some parts might be difficult to reach for cleaning in the interior

✗ Desire to brew more complex coffee beverages like espresso or lattes

→ Appearance

When I first saw this Farberware 8 cup percolator, I thought it was a modest yet cute appliance. The exterior was beautifully polished to a mirror finish. I would classify its style as sleek, classic and somewhat traditional. It looked very well in my kitchen.

There was a tight-fitting lid, which sealed under the temperature. I was able to see through a plastic affixed on the top. The lid was not hinged, and I was thus able to completely remove it. That allowed me to pour water into the percolator quite easily. In addition, an iconic black plastic handle allowed me a balanced grip.

The Farberware 8-cup percolator weighs about 1.75 pounds. It was not light by any means. However, I felt that it was very solid, and it looked reliable.

Overall, it is an attractive, durable coffee maker, simple yet versatile in design.

→ Features and technical specs

Voltage: No electricity is required. I’ve used my Farberware 8-cup percolator on an electric coil stove top. It is suitable for glass, ceramic and gas stove tops, as well. Interestingly, there were warnings not to use it on induction stove tops.

Basket: Obviously, I did not need paper filters, as the percolator contained a permanent basket filter. I tested it with the magnet to determine what materials it was made from. It did get a pull, so I assume it was a light-grade steel but the rest of the percolator could have been aluminium (with the exception for the glass knob and plastic handle).

I found a spring inside the Farberware 8 cup percolator. The spring is intended to keep the filter basket in place at the proper level. It also sends boiling water down through the coffee basket

Beverage size: Around 8 cups, or 64oz. The 8-cup Farberware percolator coffee pot has a measurement indicator showing how much water is required for a specific number of cups of coffee. I tried to fill the percolator with over 8 cups of water. This did not turn out well. When water reached a boiling point, it spilled over and coffee had a burnt flavor.

Weight: The 8-cup farberware percolator coffee pot is not the lightest appliance I have had. It weighs about 1.75 pounds, but this is due to solid structure and materials. I can say it is not as tiny as a “camping” percolator at Walmart. However, it comes with much higher quality.

Unit size: I was very pleased with how compact the farberware percolator coffee pot was. I found it very easy to carry it with me to the outdoor camp. The unit is approximately 9 inches in height, and 7 inches in width. Since the unit is round at the base, the diameter is about 4 inches.

Carafe: The unit itself is mostly is stainless-steel, holds water up to 64 ounces, and it is really easy to pour coffee from it. There is also a water indicator on the interior. I was able to see how much water was needed for a specific volume of coffee.

Additional perks: Again. Just like most other percolators, Farberware 8-cup percolator is not a typical coffee maker. It is a special type of stainless steel or aluminium coffee maker that gives lots of flexibility and ownership in the brewing process. Unlike other coffee makers made for a mass consumer, this one comes with a simple and easy to use feature set.

In this percolator, the basket is a filter in itself, so there’s was no need to buy additional paper filters (a real money saver). However, unlike some other percolators, I did not find the filter to be very well done. Some coffee grounds made their way to my cup. I did not particularly enjoy it.

The plastic knob on the top lid is transparent so I was easily able to observe how the brewing process went along. When it came to the side handle, it was plastic but it had a firm grip.

I’ve recently tried to boil water only in my Farberware 8-cup percolator, in an attempt to make tea. It worked really well as a manual kettle. Another trick that I discovered is to put some cinnamon over ground coffee. This yielded smooth and delicious coffee flavor.

I used the Farberware percolator coffee pot on an open fire at the camp. However, I quickly realized that it was not the best idea. I forgot that the lid and handle were plastic, and they melted.

→ Performance

Brewing time: If I were to make an honest, I’d say it took me about 11 minutes from start to finish. 1 minute to fill the basket with coffee and water, and around 10 minutes to heat water and percolate coffee.

Just like with most percolators, I really enjoy the flexibility and ownership that the Farberware 8-cup percolator provides. The brewing time really depends on a few factors: how fast the water boils and how strong coffee I want to brew. I usually prefer heating up water for longer to allow coffee grounds proper time to extract. That way, coffee is much stronger and richer. That said, I also noticed that if I let it percolate for too long, the beverage became more bitter (almost burnt).

I also tried brewing in 4 minutes or less, and it worked, too!

Flavor: Just like with brewing time, I really enjoy that I was in charge of brewing coffee to my preference. If I wanted a stronger beverage, I typically put more coffee grounds, little less water and brewed for a little longer (at low heat). If I wanted a milder cup of coffee, I could play with fewer coffee grounds, more water or quicker heating.

In my experience, the flavor depends heavily on the bean quality and the cooking process. Works best for my tastes with medium or light roast, coarse ground coffee. A darker roast has the tendency to have a burned taste.

Temperature: Because I had flexibility over the brewing process, I was able to reach perfect brewing temperatures. I usually put the pot on the stove and turn it on medium (or medium-high). When it starts percolating, I turn it down to low and let it continue to perk for around 8-10 minutes.

Noise levels: I found the unit to be filled with nostalgic sounds, primarily due to air moving up the channel. In addition, there was a regular water boiling noise. Overall, I did not find this percolator to be unusual from several others that I have used.

Cleaning: The coffee usually tastes fine even if I simply rinse it after the use. However, I do recommend washing it properly once a week, at the very least. I noticed that it took just a few days for the ring of coffee buildup right under the neck of the percolator.

In the past year, I’ve mostly washed it with regular dish soap and sponge. A periodic baking soda and water solution can also minimize interior coffee stains. There is a tendency for it to get discolored on the inside. I experimented with water and vinegar solutions, soaking it up for about 20 minutes.

I’d say the cleaning is easy, as all the parts are removable. However, the base in the interior comes with some areas that are hard to reach.

Customer-reported technical issues

I have personally really enjoyed my Farberware 8-cup percolator coffee pot. However, I noticed that some users report the loss of the the spring which comes with the product. Also, in average usage, the plastic top needs to be changed after about 4 years. It apparently gets cracked and clouded.

There were some individual instances of users complaining about the following issues:

• Lid coming off
• Knob getting pulled
• Spout weakly attached to the main body (and thus leaks)
• Lid might be tightly sealed and hard to remove (pulling knob too hard may get it pulled completely)

→ Health and safety

The Farberware 8-cup percolator is mostly a stainless steel appliance. Luckily, I did not find any plastic parts to come in contact with boiling water.

There is, however, a plastic handle in this farberware percolator coffee pot. I would keep this in mind for the open campfires, as this plastic can melt. It does not come in contact with water while brewing, though.

According to Farberware, those plastic parts are BPA-free.

The Farberware 8 cup percolator is a simple yet affordable old-time percolator. At a just $ price tag, I find the price-to-value to be really strong. Not only is it a beautiful and elegant product, but I am able to brew delicious coffee.

Granted, there are some cheap coffee makers that sell for less than $20 (such as AmazonBasics coffee maker). There are some quicker Keurig machines. However, Farberware 8-cup percolator coffee pot prevails when it comes to taste, flavor, flexibility and nostalgia.

Should I buy Farberware 8-cup percolator coffee pot? Owly’s verdict! 🔨

As far as percolators go, Farberware 8 cup percolator is among the best appliances available in this price point. Yes, there are other percolators with better design and stronger performance, but they are 2X or 3X more expensive. Farberware percolator coffee pot did its job for me.

I am really glad I gave it a chance to discover its worth.
