As we were testing the product for this Braun BrewSense review, we wanted to see who this machine can be a compelling choice for. In our view, Braun BrewSense coffee maker is very functional, delivers fantastic coffee and sells at the perfect price. Furthermore, Braun cares about the quality of its products. Therefore, the manufacturer offers an unparalleled 3-year warranty on this coffee maker.

Who is Braun BrewSense coffee maker NOT perfect for?

Just like with other coffee maker reviews, we would like to remain honest in the Braun BrewSense review. Braun BrewSense coffee maker is by no means a perfect drip coffee maker (but no machine is!).

While the machine delivers perfectly great coffee, we feel that coffee lovers with more nuanced and sophisticated tastes will find the machine to be lacking.

Here are some examples of users that may find Braun BrewSense to be unsuitable:

Braun BrewSense Review and Evaluation 🕵️

→ Appearance

Braun BrewSense coffee maker has a minimalist yet elegant design. It’s a plastic body with stainless steel accents.

What we particularly liked about this machine was its compact size. It can easily fit on busy kitchen countertops.

The LED control panel is at the front of the appliance, right at the top, which makes it easy to see and operate. Apart from the On/Off power button, the control panel contains a digital clock, and 7 other buttons that help me use the different features of the machine:

• “Brew”: starts the brew cycle as well as the keep warm cycle.
• “Auto on”: programs the start time of the next brew cycle up to 24 hours in advance. The time can be set for any time, day or night.
• “Auto off”: programs the shut off time of the coffee maker.
• “Clock”: displays the actual time on the LED screen. Also can work in tandem with Auto on and Auto off.
• “Set”: programs the time of day, auto on, auto off times and water hardness level.
• “Clean”: activates the descaling mode and sets the water hardness level.
• “1-4”: brews smaller amounts of coffee, up to 4 cups.

Respective indicators illuminate on the LED screen when we press different buttons and activate various features. The control panel also contains a digital clock that can also be used when setting up the times for the auto on and the auto off features.

This machine comes with its own 60oz flavor-saving glass carafe that sits on a thermal plate. The non-removable water tank is at the back of the machine. We were able to easily access it by lifting the top lid. The removable brew basket is in the same location.

→ Features and technical specs

Voltage: Braun BrewSense is made for 120V, and can be used in Canada and the US only.

Basket size: Braun BrewSense coffee maker has a removable brew basket. It is large enough to hold a maximum of 15 tablespoons of coffee grounds. Adding more than 15 tablespoons of grounds to the brew basket can cause overflow. The manufacturer recommends using one tablespoon of ground coffee for each cup of coffee.

The machine comes with its own measuring scoop, for an easier, more precise measuring. The brew basket is easily accessible by lifting up the top lid off the machine.

This coffee maker has its own gold tone permanent filter, but users may use a paper filter instead. If you decide to use paper filters, we recommend #4 cone paper filters for this machine

Beverage size: Braun BrewSense coffee maker can yield up to 12 cups (or 60oz) of coffee (with each cup holding 5oz of coffee). We can determine the volume of coffee by adding an appropriate amount of water in the water reservoir. The machine almost always brews through the entire volume of water in the container.

However, when the “1-4” feature is activate, the machine brews only a reduced amount of coffee, up to 4 cups (or enough coffee for a 11 oz travel mug).

Weight: Braun BrewSense weighs about 6 pounds. It is light and convenient.

Unit size: Braun BrewSense coffe maker is compact. It measures only 14.2 inches in height, 7.9 inches in depth, and 7.9 inches in width. Because it is very compact, it can fit on most countertops.

Water reservoir: The 60oz water reservoir is not removable. The markings that indicate the water level are only visible by looking inside the tank (the water level is not visible from the outside of the machine. We did not like it for the convenience, but water can be added rather easily.

The water reservoir has markings for 2 cups, 4 cups/11 oz mug, 6 cups, 8 cups, 10 cups and 12 cups of water. The manufacturer recommends using a bit more water than what we plan, because some of the water in the tank can evaporate during the brewing process. The coffee maker also uses some amounts of water to wet the grounds prior to brewing (pre-infusion).

The water tank comes with its own charcoal water filter of which role is to eliminate chlorine, bad tastes and odors from the tap water.

Additional perks: What we would like to emphasize in this Braun BrewSense review is that the machine is largely a regular drip coffee maker.

In my opinion, there are a couple of features that make this espresso machine very attractive. They are as follows:

✓ Full programmability for convenience and ease. The machine comes with “Auto On” and “Auto Off” functions which program the machine 24 hours in advance to start or stop brewing coffee.

✓ Not just a whole carafe, but also 1-4 cups of coffee at a time. Unlike most other drip coffee makers, which need to brew the entire volume of coffee at a time, Braun BrewSense allows users to brew smaller amounts of coffee at a time. Ultimately, Braun BrewSense can be like a single cup coffee machine, except that it does not use k-cups.

✓Mess-free brewing with an anti-drip system. The anti-drip system halts the flow of coffee from the filter basket when the carafe is removed.

✓ 12-cup flavor-saving glass carafe for an unaffected cup of coffee. A carafe is extremely easy to use, with an ergonomic and easy-grip handle. The carafe seals in the fresh flavor of coffee by minimizing air exposure for long lasting coffee freshness.

✓ Charcoal water filter for pure coffee pleasure. The use of the charcoal water filter is optional, but we strongly recommend it. The filter allegedly eliminates chlorine, bad tastes and odors from tap water.

→ Performance

Brewing time: Braun BrewSense brews coffee fairly quickly, but continues to respect the time it takes to brew coffee. The machine takes about 10 minutes to brew 12 cups (60oz) of coffee.

Flavor: Braun’s unique PureFlavor system ensures coffee brews at the perfect brewing temperature.

It also secures the right amount of time for coffee extraction and brewing. Thus, Braun BrewSense coffee machine can brew coffee of fantastic flavors.

In addition, the coffee machine comes with glass carafe, which protects flavor by minimizing access to air. Coffee stays fresh for longer.

Temperature: In our tests, water was reaching 180-185 F degrees, which is fairly close to the perfect brewing temperature.

Noise levels: The machine makes a noticeable clicking noise at the end of the brewing cycle.

Cleaning: When the LED light above the “Clean” button illuminates in solid green, it means that the machine needs descaling. The removal of built-up calcium deposits from the water reservoir will help extend the life of the coffee maker and will keep coffee tasting great. The frequency at which the machine needs to be descaled depends on the hardness of the tap water and frequency of use.

For descaling, the manufacturers recommend using a commercially available descaling agent that is safe to use on aluminum. The cleaning cycle is automatic. The entire cleaning cycle including rinsing can take up to 45 minutes to complete.

The removable brew basket and permanent filter, as well as the glass carafe and its lid can be washed in warm, soapy water and rinsed thoroughly. They can also be cleaned in the upper rack of the dishwasher.

Customer-reported technical issues

In general, users of Braun BrewSense coffee maker are very happy with the machine. They love the taste of coffee, praise the machine’s features, and appreciate its modern design.

While we did not experience any major issues while testing the product for this Braun BrewSense review, there are a couple of negative reviews from other consumers. Those complaints have to do with the following:

• Coffee is not hot enough,
• The stop-drip feature does not work correctly,
• The machine drips coffee on hot plate when the carafe is removed.

Other consumers bring up some issues with the design of the machine. Specifically, they do not like that the coffee maker makes a loud noise at the end of the brewing cycle. Further, the water level markings inside the water tank are difficult to see. It may be difficult to fill up water reservoir with the desired quantity of water.

This product is made mostly of plastic, but the Braun website claims that BPA-free materials are used for all parts intended to be in contact with coffee and water. These claims are based on third-party testing.

Braun BrewSense KF7070 sells at an extremely reasonable price $$ on Amazon and other retailers. In our view, this machine offers an extraordinary price-to-value ratio. Not only does Braun BrewSense offer an appealing exterior design, but it comes with features that make life (and brewing) quick and easy: 24-hour programmability, the stop drip feature, and the “1-4” brew option. A great incentive is also the 3-year warranty period that I have at my disposal when purchasing this product.
