Nespresso Creatista vs Nespresso Creatista Plus: a revolutionary product for coffee lovers
Breville came forward with truly revolutionary products: Nespresso Creatista and Nespresso Creatista Plus. Both products earned trust of coffee lovers across the United States (and Canada!). They also sparked my interest (enough to share my thoughts with you).
Though I am not a fan of Nespresso capsules (they are scarce, only very few flavors, and they are aluminium), I do respect Breville for such a strong line of products. These espresso machines broke many records in my books:
- They became one of the fastest water heating coffee makers.
- They became one of the most powerful espresso machines.
- They became one of the most compact espresso makers.
These machines are eerily similar, but there are some minor differences. Let’s dive in.
Differences Nespresso Creatista vs Nespresso Creatista Plus
The differences between Nespresso Creatista vs Nespresso Creatista Plus are very small. Nespresso Creatista Plus offers slightly more flexibility in brewing and reaching a perfect level of froth firmness and froth temperature. Creatista Plus also costs significantly more than a regular Creatista.
In my opinion, a regular coffee lover will not be able to take full advantage of those additional features in Creatista Plus. Though very nice, Nespresso Creatista Plus seems a bit too expensive given how marginally more it offers.
For full transparency, here’s a side-to-side comparison of differences between Nespresso Creatista and Nespresso Creatista Plus!

Stainless steel body

8 texture levels for froth
11 temperature levels for milk
3 second heat up time

Body: Breville Nespresso Creatista comes with a combination of plastic and stainless steel. Meanwhile, Nespresso Creatista Plus comes with a stainless steel body. In my opinion, Nespresso Creatista Plus is a winner here. The stainless steel body looks more luxurious and elegant.
Color: In the stores, Nespresso Creatista is available in 2 colors:
- salted liquorice, and
- royal champagne.
On the other hand, Nespresso Creatista comes in as many as 4 different color options. These colors are available in different stores:
- brushed stainless steel,
- black truffle,
- smoked hickory, and
- sea salt.
Milk frothing: When it comes to the milk frother, Creatista Plus comes with 8 texture levels for the froth, while a regular Nespresso Creatista has only 4 levels. What do texture levels do to a froth? In essence, a texture level allows a coffee lover to regulate firmness of a milk froth. I love Nespresso Creatista with 4 levels, and I believe this is enough. For true coffee lovers, 8 texture level may allow an unparalleled flexibility to brew coffee with froth made to their liking.
Milk temperature levels: Again, Creatista Plus has a slight advantage here with 11 temperature levels. A regular Nespresso Creatista comes with “mere” 5 temperature levels. Just like with milk frothing levels: while it’s nice to have more flexibility, I feel like a regular user will not need 6 additional temperature levels for milk froth.
Heat-up time: The line of Breville Nespresso Creatista has been truly revolutionary. Breville managed to decrease the water heat up time to 10 seconds. With the Nespresso Creatista Plus, Breville potentially broke the record, further decreasing a heat up time to mere 3 seconds! For a regular user, 7 seconds might not make a huge difference. However, I admire Breville for bringing being a leader in the industry.
Price: Breville Nespresso Creatista comes with a $$$ price tag, while Nespresso Creatista at a whopping $$$$$. This typically is at least $130 or more.
Which one to choose: Nespresso Creatista or Nespresso Creatista Plus?
Without a doubt, Nespresso Creatista Plus allows a user even more flexibility to brew coffee to a specific liking. I definitely appreciate a faster heat up time, more texture levels and more variety in milk temperature. I also appreciate a stainless-steel body of the Creatista Plus.
In my opinion, however, those add-ons of Nespresso Creatista Plus make this espresso machine only marginally better than Nespresso Creatista.
I do not think a regular coffee lover will be able to fully utilize those additional features. While they contribute some incremental value, I am not yet convinced they make such a huge difference. I am also not convinced whether they warrant additional $130 on top of Nespresso Creatista.
Before you jump to purchase either Nespresso Creatista or Nespresso Creatista Plus (or both?), I would like to ask two questions:
- Do you think you will be able to use additional features offered by Nespresso Creatista Plus on a consistent basis?
- Do those “additional” levels of flexibility enough to warrant a $130 price difference between Nespresso Creatista Plus and Nespresso Creatista?
If you answered yes to both questions, Nespresso Creatista Plus might be a right choice for you. However, if you answered no to either (or both) questions, then you may, perhaps, think about Nespresso Creatista, or some other espresso machine.
Bottom line

Hello, I have been a Creatista Plus owner/user since Feb. 2018. It’s going on 3 yrs. old now. I love the lattes it makes, but have to run the steam froth cycle twice as one cycle just doesn’t get the milk hot enough, even on hottest setting, for my liking. I have found this with most frothers whether they are attached to the machine or as an individual unit. What does concern me about this machine is that it tends to throw a lot of error codes, the most frequent is “Clean the Steam Wand” and also “Attach the Steam Wand Tip”. After researching many owner comments, this appears to be a common issue. I only use filtered/bottled water and descale/clean steam wand quite often so it’s a mystery why it keeps on happening. As a workaround, I simply turn off the machine then restart and it clears the error code so I can get back to making my morning latte, which are spectacular! Does an excellent job on espresso/lattes, etc. But at this price point it should not be throwing erroneous error codes (pretty much every time I use it). Not sure I’d recommend this machine, but it does make an excellent latte/espresso…just Google “Creatista Plus Steam Wand issues” and see what longer-term owners are experiencing.
Your review helped me so much. I’m going with the original Creatista.
Thanks
